The storm of Amfan has caused great destruction in West Bengal. At a speed of 160 to 180 kilometers per hour, the storm damaged Kolkata Airport. Many areas of Kolkata have been flooded. The devastation caused by the storm in West Bengal is yet to be assessed, but Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee claims that 72 people have died in the state from Amfan.
